Every Child Deserves a Voice
Inspired by the belief that music is crucial in every child’s development, Mount Vernon Virtuosi has created Every Child Deserves a Voice, an education outreach initiative generously funded by a Challenge America grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
MVV is partnering with KIPP Harmony Academy to provide group lessons geared toward grades K-5. MVV has acquired 10 new string instruments (six violins, two violas, and two cellos) and sessions will be taught by MVV orchestra members who are professional teaching artists. All expenses are covered by Mount Vernon Virtuosi, including teaching artist fees, instrument maintenance, and supplies.
Our philosophy is that music instruction should be provided to children who otherwise would not be able to afford an instrument or lessons. It is our hope that through a successful partnership, the program could potentially grow to include additional students and teaching artists.
Our teachers in the spring 2023 semester are Jiaoyang Xu, Cello and Tavifa Gascon, Violin! Thank you for your valuable work!!!
